The city of Stow recently hired Mike Jones as deputy city engineer to fill a vacancy in the engineering department.
Jones is a lifelong resident of Stow. He attended Echo Hills Elementary, Lakeview Intermediate, Kimpton Middle School and Stow-Munroe Falls High School. He was a DARE Award winner, a multiple winner of the Stolion Award, a member of the National Honor Society and on the high school football and baseball teams.
Jones attended the University of Akron where he graduated with a 3.25 GPA with a bachelor's of science and civil engineering in December 2016. He was on the dean's list eight semesters, received the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. Scholarship, the Gerard John and Betty Jane Talbert Scholarship, the Flexible Pavements of Ohio Scholarship and the Student Success Scholarship.
Jones' prior work experience includes Crano Construction and as an engineering intern at the city of Stow and at AECOM, consulting engineers. Stow City Engineer Jim McCleary said, "We were fortunate to hire Mike Jones, a young man of character, as AECOM and Kenmore Construction actively pursued his engineering services."
Jones and his wife, Hannah, an RN at Akron Children's Hospital, are residents of Stow. They attend Wooster Bible Church and enjoy traveling together. Jones said he loves his community and looks forward to improving its infrastructures and "truly making it a place to grow."
